![]() Settings - Symbol List Tab
The following is an overview of each of the settings for the active Symbol List (shown above).
Active Symbols Section (Grid)
Symbol List Selector: The symbol list selector is a drop down that allows you to choose basic flowcharting symbols or a "My Symbols" list that you can customize. The basic symbols list includes the most commonly used flowcharting symbols - process, decision, terminator, and connector.
Order: The order that keywords are evaluated. If an entry contains keywords for two different symbols, the symbol with the higher priority (appearing in the grid first) will be generated.
Symbol: A icon of the symbol - cannot be edited in the grid. To change the list of active symbols, see Edit Symbol List under Options, below.
Style: A small icon of the style set for the symbol - cannot be edited in the grid. To change the style, see Change Style under Styles, below.
Name: This is the name of the symbol that will be displayed when you generate a Symbol Key. Double-click to edit.
Prefix: An abbreviation of the symbol name. Double-click to edit. Important: keywords must be separated by commas. (See also: Using Keywords and Prefixes).
Keywords: Words, that when used in an entry, will generate a specific symbol. Double-click to edit. (See also: Using Keywords and Prefixes).
Width: This sets the default width for the selected symbol. The grid units are based on the default row height in Excel.
Height: The height setting is similar to the width setting. By default, FlowBreeze will autosize the height of the symbol to fit the text. To generate fixed height symbols, turn off the Autosize feature in the Advanced Settings window.
Styles Section
Change Style: When you select a row in the grid, a zoomed in image of the style will appear below. Clicking the "Change Style..." button will open the Symbol Style window, allowing you to change the style.
Flow Line Style: the Flow Line style is constant for all symbols. Clicking the "Flow Line Style..." button will open the Flow Line Styles window, allowing you to change the default flow line style.
Note: styles can be changed in Standard Edition only - FlowBreeze Basic allows only black and white flowcharting symbols.
Options Section
Edit Symbol List: The grid is populated with the symbols that are active. Clicking the "Edit Symbol List..." button will open the Edit Symbol List form, allowing you to specify which symbols you want to use in your flowchart.
Export Symbol List: The "Export Symbol List" button will generate a new workbook and output the list of active symbols, including their prefixes, keywords, width, and height.
Change Font: Opens a standard Windows Font dialog, allowing you to set the font (name and size). The font color for each symbol is set automatically based on the style.
Advanced Settings
Clicking the "Advanced Settings..." button opens up a separate window where more options can be set. For more details, click here.
